Assignment 1 - Concept pitch

In assignment 1 we basically had to come up with an idea for a 2min short animation, the concept I came up for this assignment was firstly called Melvin's Magic Mushroom Adventures however in the end result it was changed to TO-O Nerdy, as a result of some minor changes to the ending of the concept about living rather than dying.
The first idea was about a guy who looked pretty nerdy, his definite features were a huge mushroom cut hairdo, his large rectangular glasses and his colourful dress sense.

So the story begins when he's walking a long in a park and some bright mushrooms catch his eyes and out of curiosity he eats one. As a result he drops to the ground and dies. Then suddenly he finds himself floating and looking down at his body with a sensation of an upwards pull. So as he's floating upwards he notices that he has wings and a halo. Then he reaches heaven however he was denied access as he had died from illicit drug abuse, so he is kicked down to hell but again is denied access because he was simply too nerdy for Hades to handle and again was kicked back to earth.

So basically about a guy who gets rejected by both heaven and hell for being too nerdy.

Conversely, the previous ending was him getting rejected by heaven and getting his wings and halo taken away while he was float upwards. Then a big black hole appears beneath him and he falls into the hole that is supposed to symbolize hell and he dies.

Troubles and concerns about this concept
With this project, I actually had a lot of trouble settling on an idea and with my other subject having a compulsory camp in the middle of nowhere. Ideas weren’t really pouring, but I simply had to settle for one and start to draw because I didn’t have any computer access in Whyalla and coming back to Adelaide a day before it was due was even more alarming. However I managed to finish it, even though I wasn’t 100% happy with the result, I still believe the concept was quite funny and put as much effort into it. Though my presentation should have been a lot better, than my actual presentation that was over in a flash, I believe I should have expanded more on my idea and explain more of the plot.
